My parents used to take me to local circle tracks (Cloverleaf Speedway) and drag strips (Norwalk Raceway) all the time when I was a kid. They were mostly fans of Nascar style racing...I enjoyed that and also watching Formula One racing too.
Lately, I've been going with Dad to the Blue Suede Cruise in Norwalk, Ohio. We like looking at the classic cars and you'll even see guys race them down the track in what's called a "Fun Run". It's a nice event you can look at the classic cars, hit the pits, and even camp out for the weekend if you want. A real nice event.
If the weather is good, Mom packs a lunch for us and Dad brings one of his classic cars and we hang out and have a good time.
I'm in the process of acquiring a "piece of crap" car and getting that to race condition for a 24-Hours of Lemons race and local track "4 Banger" races too. Stay tuned...
July 2025 Update: I picked up a 2010 Chevy Cobalt (Manual) for $400. It runs and drives perfectly and am in the process of stripping it down and prepping it for Circle Track/Dirt Track racing. It's not going to be super competitive, but the Compact Races are all about keeping everybody on the same plane (engine-wise) so everybody has a chance and it all comes down to strategy and driving. Anyway, anything of note I'll post when it comes to the build...
