I was always lucky to grow up on a decent amount of land as a child and an adult. With that comes a lot of responsibility and hard work. Mowing the grass, weeding, trimming trees, taking care of the pond, drainage, etc. The list is nearly endless.

Landscaping and moving rock, dirt, etc. can be back breaking work too. So in 2024 I bought a tractor to handle some of the heavy tasks. I planned on re-architecting the patio area so it has an eating area and relaxing area with a grilling, etc station in the middle. That required pulling up some huge pavers, rock and digging out some dirt. The tractor can not only make the job a lot easier, you can essentially do it all yourself - all while saving your back!

I researched a LOT of tractors. I knew I was looking at whats now called the Sub-Compact Tractor market. It's an interesting category in the tractor space. They are very easy to drive, maintain and have plenty a traditional attachmenets. My concern was a lot of this equipment is not state-side, but rather coming from South Korea and assembled state-side (usually Georgia, the Carolina's, etc.)

I am a big supporter of the "Right to Repair". John Deere is a well known company that charges a fortune for tractors and won't let farmers fix the equipment themselves. You actually have to have a service call to repair some of this stuff. That costs more, requires unecessary technology, drives up your food costs and slows the entire process of farming down. So I don't support them and other manufactuers that sell this type of equipment. So a lot of those American companies, I disgarded during my research.

I finally settled on a TYM tractor. They are one of the world's largest manufacturers of tractors and they are built very, very well. Below is a photo of the tractor at my dealer (Holgate Tractors). Here they installed and tested the backhoe which I added to the unit along with the third function (used with items like a grapple or snow blower/blade, etc.) If you talk to them, tell them I said "Hi". I'll post more of the tractor (and myself) doing work when I get the time.
