Jeep

For the past few years, I've been toying around with the idea of getting a Jeep. I'm talking classic Jeep here, like a CJ, or YJ or something like that. Well, I've been looking at TJ's recently and was planning on getting something close to stock so I could play with it, modify it, lift it, etc. Basically just give me a reason to enjoy the Jeep in the summer, on the trail, and do some "wrenching" every once in a while.

Well, it finally happened. I purchased a 2003 Wrangler TJ manual trans. with a 3-inch lift and 32-inch tires. I run it exclusively with the top town, only in the summer, other than that it stays in the garage.....while the Tacoma sits in the driveway as my daily driver.

I'll tell ya, it's a great vehicle to have. Fun, exciting, gives you an excuse to just cruise around in the summer or any day it's sunny. Yeah, you'll see me driving around on a sunny 50 degree day in April with the top off. Call me crazy!

Even the family dog loves riding around in it.

My only real issue is speed. The oversize tires under-report the speed on the speedometer. The speedomter gearing change is easy to do, but I'm too cheap to purchase the $40.00 part to fix it. So I used a little technology to fix it. I haven't published it in the Apple or Google App Stores, because I figured most people don't need it. If it's something you want, let me know and I'll shoot you the link to my JeepOMeter app.

I'm not a fan of all the "Soccer Mom's" that purchased the newer 4-door JK's. They don't understand the history of the Jeep, don't care, and worse...they don't do the "Jeep Wave". I still wave, but get some crazy looks. I guess that's why we real Jeep Owners call most JK owner's "Curb Crawlers", "Mall Crawlers", or "JoKes" (JK). If you see a Jeep - just wave and be friendly like these guys and gals...Life is short, so have fun and be kind to each other!
