Nature

I'm a nature lover.....well to a point. I can deal with most animals as long as they aren't destructive or disease spreading. So not a fan of mice/rats/mosquitoes/cockroaches, etc. The rest of nature can be pretty beautiful.

I enjoy waking up on a Saturday, having a cup of coffee and watching the birds and squirrels eat from the feeders around the property.
In the winter time it can be very pretty out here.

I've seen the following birds...

  • Blue Jay
  • Common Grackle
  • European Starling
  • White Breasted Nuthatch
  • Tufted Titmouse
  • North American Cardinal
  • Red Bellied Woodpecker
  • Redwinged Blackbird
  • Downy Woodpecker
  • Song Sparrow
  • American Tree Sparrow
  • American Goldfinch
  • Baltimore Oriole
  • Rock Pigeon
  • Cooper's Hawk
  • Mallard
  • Canadian Goose

The cardinal and the bluejay are my favorite. The goldfinch has a real bright yellow color too. The mallard up close has an awesome green in the neck.

You also have to deal with chipmunks, raccoon, and squirrels too. I don't mind them eating at the feeder as long as they don't wreck the house. Unfortunately, a chipmunk has to be relocated because he ate some of the vinyl siding (they are rodents after all).

The raccoons make an apperance too, and finally had to secure all the bird feeders because they would actually rip them off and drag them halfway accross the yard back to their nests. I don't mind the raccoons either, but unfortunately one had died due to distemper (I hear it's uncurable and not very pleasent to deal with.) I caught some footage while on the way to work. It finally hit me what he had so I know how to deal with it in the future.

I don't mind the ducks and tolerate the geese (as long as they don't make it a permanent home) because they can be agressive. So I run out in the back yard and chase them off if they stay too long.

I've also got a visit from a Woodchuck (aka Gopher or Groundhog) that likes to play in the old horse barn. He must have a den nearby, but I haven't found it yet. He's tearing up the lawn, but his relatives have been doing that around the town too, so I just deal with it.
